BruinADVISORY: UCLA Participating in Regional Active Assailant Training Exercise Aug. 26

UCLA will serve as one of several locations participating in a coordinated regional active assailant training exercise taking place across Southern California on Wednesday, August 26. As part of the regional exercise, the UCLA Police Department (UCPD) and partner public safety agencies will conduct training at Hedrick Court and Parking Lot 10 from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This is a controlled training exercise only. There is no active threat to the UCLA campus or surrounding community, and no protective action is required.
During the exercise, community members may see a significant law enforcement presence, including personnel in uniform and tactical gear carrying firearms and training equipment, role players, emergency response vehicles and helicopter activity in and around the exercise area. Simulated gunfire and other loud sounds may also be heard.
UCLA’s participation is one component of a broader regional exercise designed to strengthen coordination, emergency preparedness and the ability of public safety agencies across Southern California to respond together during a critical incident.
UCPD will continue providing regular public safety services throughout the exercise. Community members should avoid the immediate training area and follow all posted signage and directions from public safety personnel.
We recognize that the sights and sounds associated with this type of training may be alarming. Signage and public safety personnel will be positioned around the exercise area to help identify the activity as training and answer questions.
We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the UCLA community and surrounding neighborhoods while UCLA and participating agencies take part in this important regional exercise.
