The Supreme Court on Friday approved the Biden administration’s request to present oral arguments in the anti-affirmative action challenges against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The high court will hear oral arguments in two cases on Oct. 31 that aim to ban colleges and universities from considering race in their admissions processes, according to the docket.
Harvard: In Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, the anti-affirmative action group SFFA asked the high court to overturn its ruling in a landmark case — Grutter v. Bollinger — that has shaped college admissions policies for nearly two decades. SFFA, which represents about 20,000 students, alleges the Ivy League school intentionally discriminates against Asian American students in admissions... Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who said she would recuse herself from the case because of her ties to the university, took no part in the consideration or decision of these motions.
UNC: The Supreme Court will also hear a separate lawsuit from Students for Fair Admissions against affirmative action policies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill... Jackson will participate in the UNC case...
