UCPD issued a statement on the social media platform X just before 9 p.m. Thursday telling students to stay away from the Sproul Cove area due to a reported threat. The department later issued another post saying the subject claimed to have an explosive device and threatened to use it.
Around 8:15 p.m., eight UCPD cars lined up outside Sproul Cove while students began evacuating the building floor-by-floor until they “were pretty certain most people were out of the building,” said James Echols, patrol division lieutenant.
