From the Harvard Crimson: The Faculty of Arts and Sciences’ sweeping staff restructuring has, at long last, reached Harvard College. In a June 30 College-wide webinar, College Dean David J. Deming unveiled a new administrative structure that would dismantle the Office of Student Services, revive a version of the Freshman’s Dean Office, and consolidate major undergraduate services into a smaller set of umbrella offices...
Deming also confirmed that College staff will be expected to work in person five days a week beginning this fall, a change first reported by The Crimson that has already drawn pushback from staff and union organizers... [The] changes are part of an FAS task force’s push to cut staffing costs as the school works to close a $365 million estimated structural deficit... Administrators did not provide a specific timeline for summer layoffs, which could affect up to 25 percent of FAS staff...
