UCLA History: Alternative Fuel

Hit me, if you dare.
A UCLA team in the early 1970s experimented with hydrogen-fueled cars. One was an AMC Gremlin.  Another pictured here was a mail truck.

Given the sign on the truck's back indicating the fuel, other drivers following behind might be cautious about rear-ending it. Why? Yours truly had a chemistry teacher in high school who once said, "There hasn't been any free hydrogen in the atmosphere since the first caveman lit the first cigar."
