As noted in our prior post, UC prez Napolitano upped the ante in the Katehi matter by appointing a prosecutor to investigate the case. That's a threat, of course, aimed at negotiating a deal in which Katehi resigns. However, the emphasis so far on issues of nepotism and possible misappropriation of funds (see earlier posts) makes a resignation deal more difficult. What's needed now is mediation and - in the interim - an end to public statements and positions. Since the UC-Davis Academic Senate is clearly interested in the case, perhaps a Senate member might be a candidate as a mediator.
