UC ax doesn't fall on Merced: Regents hear about other campuses' struggles to slash expenses further (excerpt):


Those plans were discussed during the UC Board of Regents' regularly scheduled meeting at the UC San Francisco Mission Bay campus Wednesday.

UC President Mark Yudof last month assigned the 10 UC campuses target reductions or other actions to help meet the $500 million reduction proposed by Gov. Jerry Brown. The 23-campus California State University system also faces a $500 million cut. Cuts could be deeper if Brown's budget proposal doesn't pass.

UC Merced was the only university that wasn't assigned target reductions. Still, university officials say the young college will find ways to save money...
