Former UC president Janet Napolitano created a UC free speech center during her term, partly in response to protests and complaints about various speakers on campus. With a new UC president, the fate of the center was unclear. However, President Drake has continued it and, in fact, is on the board of the center with Napolitano. The center has now issued its annual report, available at:

This Free Speech Center opened just when UCD was defenestrating Prof. Abby Thomson for suggesting that the UC DEI hiring tests were hiring tests.
The Center doesn’t exist to open up topics for discussion nationwide so much as to identify topics UCOP wants to advertise as particularly virtuous.
